Curriculum Vitae

Eva-Clarita Pettai is associate researcher at the Imre-Kertész Kolleg since 2017, where she manages the research area "History and the Public Sphere" together with Juliane Tomann. Between 2004 and 2016 she was senior researcher at the University of Tartu, Estonia, where she also taught in the field of comparative politics. This long period was interrupted only for one year in 2009/10 when she worked at the Centre for the Study of Democracy (ZDEMO) at Leuphana University Lüneburg, Germany. From 2001 to 2003 she was project manager for the History Network of Young Europeans (EUSTORY), at the Körber Foundation in Hamburg, Germany. Pettai obtained her PhD in Political Science in 2001 with a study entitled ‘Democratizing History in Latvia’ and an MA degree (pre-Bologna Magister) in 1996 in East European Area Studies and History, both from the Free University of Berlin. Before and during her studies she spent several longer-term study periods in Moscow (1990) and Riga (1994, 1997-98).
