José Luis Aguilar studied History from 2010 to 2014 in the University of Granada and in the University Jagiellonsky of Krakow. From February to June 2010 he has been a research assistant in the Łech Wałęsa Institut of Krakow. In year 2016 he finished a Master of "Contemporary History" in the University Complutense of Madrid. Since March 2017 he is part of the Graduiertenkollegs as Research associate and PhD student.

Research project

The History of Tourism in comparative perspective: The GDR and the Franco dictatorship in the sixties and seventies

The project is about the History of tourism in the GDR and the Spanish dictatorship during the sixties and seventies. It compares the institutional framework of the tourism, its goals and the way in which the governments of both countries tried to promote a specific kind of tourism that benefited them. Furthermore, it addresses the question of the new tourist possibilities enabled by the economic development of the two states and represented by the uso of the car as a mean of transport for the leisure trips. The personal experiences of the tourists will be the core of the project, and it will be compared the relation between the citizens and the state, and the extent of freedom allowed by the two authoritarian governments regarding the tourist aspects.
